Beach Adventure

Adventuring my home city is one of my favourite things to do. This island is so beautiful with so many hidden pleasures. This weekend, my boyfriend and I decided to go downtown and have a day just wandering around towards the ocean. We wanted a day to relax but still get out of the house.

So we woke up, ate breakfast, and got ready to head out. The day was supposed to rain but it turned out to be a wonderful day. The sun even came out for us when we reached a beautiful area by the water. When we got downtown, instead of venturing through tourist areas and shops, we headed straight for Beacon Hill Park.

In Beacon Hill Park, we walked around taking in all the nature and beautiful scenery. Walked past many ducks and geese, past many ponds, and walked through the area where my parents were married. This has been one of my favourite places since I was a kid. I have so many memories at this park and it was great to be back there after a pretty long while.

One of my favourite parts of the adventure was when we reached the outskirt of the park, on the water side. We noticed a small fenced square in the middle of the hill so we went and had a look. There, we found three perfectly remaining ancient burial graves.

Having taken a few archaeologist classes and even wanting to become an archaeologist for a while, this brought me great excitement! These graves were here before the first Europeans came to the island. Back when there were no Douglas Fir trees, and it looked like a Savannah. I always knew that there were hundreds of unrecorded burial sites all through out the park, but I had never seen these ones, so huge and untouched. I wanted to just sit there looking at them all day, but we weren't finished our adventure.

We walked down the rest of the hill and crossed the street to the ocean side. We took a set of long, steep stairs down to the rocky beach and decided to follow the rocks as far as we could. So we climbed our way along the ocean all the way to the breakwater, and came across one beach that really made me happy and serene. The sun was coming out at this point, the small waves crashed upon the shore and there was a man paddle boarding in the background. This was when I realized just how happy and at peace I felt being on the beach. I knew at that moment that I was always meant to live by the ocean.

Afterwords, we walked to this 50's styled diner, and ordered hotdogs. Being a vegan, they had veggie dogs. Let me tell you, that was the most delicious and hugest hotdog I've ever had. Fresh tomatos, basil, balsamic, dijon mustard, and siracha hotsauce  covered my hotdog. I will definitely be going there again soon!

Here are some pictures from our adventure <3
